cardigan done!

yay!

i am really pleased with how it turned out. love the neckline, and the waist shaping.

i do wish the sleeves were maybe 3/4" longer. and if you look closely, you'll notice the bottom button is missing, because i could only find six (i'm sure i have more of these somewhere!). but i wanted to wear it, so i'm calling it done!

i also finally finished another silly project. i made a pair of farinelli gloves out of shibui sock, and destashed the leftovers during last year's purge. set them aside for the summer, waiting for glove weather. then the fall came, i tried them on, and realised... one thumb was shorter than the other! too short! how on earth did i do that? and i had already gotten rid of the rest of the shibui.

fortunately, i had entered them in the fenelon fair, so i knew i had at least a scrap of yarn somewhere, as you need to attach samples of materials. but where? over the past however-many months, i have variously had my hands on the scrap or the gloves, but never both at the same time. today i finally had both!

but couldn't find my 2mm dpns!

knowing it was a tiny amount of knitting, and that the needles would turn up as soon as they were no longer needed, i decided to get creative and break out the toothpicks.

annoying, but it worked in a pinch. and i found the missing dpns right after (and put them away properly in my needle roll).

also managed to complete another dishcloth for the ontario food bank dishcloth-along.

finally, i pulled out the mystery yarn (i have way more than i thought!) that my brother-in-law gave me for a birthday present, and started a little something.

does anyone recognize this yarn?

long time no post!

can't believe it has been two months! whoops. time flies. there have been xmas dinners and pastries and ice cream cakes and a ninja pinata.

but what's got me finally around to posting again is the most arduous project i think i've ever done. i started it in 2010. i continued working in 2011 and 2012. i left it alone for months or years. but finally - the spring dreams dress is done!

the lacework is frost flowers - there are a few repeats at the hem, one at the sleeves, and a sort of triangular insert at the keyhole neckline. the i-cord bind-off keyhole tie neckline is kind of my favourite i think - feminine but still polished-looking. i did an i-cord drawstring belt thingy too, to try to discourage sagging and dragging. hope it works!

this was my inspiration - a dress pattern from the 1930s. kind of wish i'd made the sleeves a little poofier - but i was afraid they'd be too poofy!

the incredible hulk: part 2

hallowe'en is over! now we are all about ready to throw up from eating too much candy!

anyway, i finished off the hulk costume today: sewed up the green outer layer, inserted the muscled under layer, and quilted the two together.

here's a close-up of the pecs and abs. i used embroidery floss to do a bit of hand quilting to make the muscles really pop.

and a close up of the shorts. i started with a basic pyjama bottom pattern, and basically made two identical pairs of shorts, zig-zagged them together at the bottom, and then turned rightside out to get a neat and tidy torn/shredded look.

he is already talking about wearing them as shorts next summer!

he was thrilled with the costume over all, and started his hulky poses as soon as he tried it on.

meanwhile, i finished my annis shawl and am currently blocking!

it used exactly one half (i weighed) of a skein of wollemeise. which means i need to find a project for the other half. this was supposed to be a stashbuster, dammit!
